Zahir was a Mikhal Traveler who lived in the galaxy's Delta Quadrant in the 24th century.
Biography[]
Zahir offered to help the Federation starship USS Voyager chart a course back to the Alpha Quadrant in the year 2373. Developing a liking for Kes, Zahir kissed her on a romantic walk and asked her to travel with him, convincing Kes to ask Captain Janeway for a leave from Voyager. Zahir was walking where he had kissed Kes when he was assaulted by a cloaked figure, who seriously injured him by pushing him off the edge of a cliff. It was revealed that Zahir had been targeted by The Doctor who, trying to improve his program, had created an evil version of himself. Jealous of Kes's relationship with Zahir, the Doctor's alter ego has attacked Zahir. Zahir recovered, but Kes decided to stay on Voyager. Alternate timeline[]
In an alternate timeline, Kes and Zahir resumed their relationship in 2374. When she mistakenly believed that she was undergoing the elogium for what would be the only time, Kes asked him to be the father of her child or children. Zahir was initially apprehensive at the thought of becoming a father but grew to accept the idea. However, several days later, The Doctor informed Kes that her increased mental abilities meant that she could extend her life and undergo the elogium multiple times. Kes ended her relationship with Zahir as she had come to realise that her youthful infatuation with him was not a solid foundation for a marriage. Zahir understood her decision, telling Kes that he would be a poor Traveler if he prevented her from following her own path. Kes sensed that he loved her deeply but that it "was a juvenile love, the kind that burned strong and then burned out." She believed that fathering her children would have been a trap for Zahir and that it was better for both of them to end their relationship.
